By Paul Smith

Planning a wedding can seem off-putting at first but one thing is for sure, all good weddings have been planned, they don't just happen. You need to start thinking about your plan as soon as you've accepted the proposal. Fortunately, there are free webtools available to help you with this planning period. Email Reminders are one such tool that can help you with all the key dates for your upcoming wedding day. All your ushers, bridesmaids, Bride's and Groom's parents can be reminded of when they are needed, and where. The following paragraphs are a list of what you will need to keep track of.

Decide quickly what type of ceremony you want, civil or church and agree the budget for the wedding. Ideally you should start planning at least six months before you get married but don't worry if time is short. The choosing a suitable venue for the reception is really important as is checking the availability and date. Check with the reception venue that staff are available and that the venue is big enough for the number of guests that you think will come. Start to think about your bridesmaids, ushers and best man. Don't forget to tell work that you will be having time off so that replacement staff can be arranged if required. Start to firm up on the guest list and look in the yellow pages for nearby hotels for your guests if they will be required. Find suitable wedding shops and start trying on wedding dresses !! Book the photographer. Book the DJ or the group to perform at your wedding. Get your hairdresser and makeup person booked. All these bookings become simple if you set up email reminders to prompt you if you forget.

If you haven't done so already, find your wedding shop for jewellery, shoes, and other incidentals. For light relief, make your wedding gift list ( nothing too expensive unless all your guests are rich ! ) Think about where you would like to stay on your wedding night and check availability. Decide where you're going for the honeymoon and check your passports are valid. For the venue start to think about table decorations, place name holders, seating plans, and of course the cake needs to be ordered. If the venue isn't providing the drinks you need to look around for a supplier.

With three months to go, book suit fittings for the groom and his men ( don't forget about email reminders so everyone knows what date they're needed ). Book dress fittings for you and the bridesmaids ( again, remember the email reminders ). Place final orders with the florists and drink suppliers if required. The exciting bit is coming soon now, go out and buy your wedding ring(s). Decide and book where your stag and hen nights are going to be. Confirm which vows you'll take, choose the music for the church ( don't forget the choir ) and get the order of service printed up. Finalise all details with the priest, minister or registrar.

Make sure that the Stag and Hen nights are over and done with at least two weeks before your wedding. A month left to go now and you need to be finalising any outstanding arrangements. Have a full dress rehearsal with your bridesmaids, all the dresses, the make-up and the hairdresser needs to tried out for your wedding day hairstyle.Check that the best man has got his speech written and prepare your own wedding speech.

The last two weeks should see the following happen, prepare a schedule for what's happening on the day and make sure all your attendants have a copy. The groom should visit the hairdresser. Make sure that the best man has the wedding rings. Sort out the spending money for the honeymoon and get the bags packed. Make sure the travel arrangements from the wedding to the honeymoon are booked. For the venue, make sure the caterers have all they need, the cake, drinks if they're not supplying, decorations, seating plans. Make sure that arrangements are in place for getting the wedding presents, cake and any hired costumes back if you're going to be jetting off. Enjoy your wedding day..
